AKIPRESS.COM - Catherine Ashton, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission appointed Janos Herman, a senior EEAS official, as Special Envoy to Central Asia with the task of ensuring continued EU high-level engagement in the region, following the recent resignation of Patricia Flow, EU Special Representative for Central Asia, the press service of the EU External Action reported on April 9.
Ashton has decided to appoint Janos Herman in order to ensure the continued engagement with the countries of Central Asia, she said. Catherine Ashton added that Janos is an experienced diplomat and she is looking forward to working with him in his new role.
Janos Herman is a former head of the EU Delegation to Norway, as well as former Hungarian State Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador to NATO.
Initially, the Special Envoy is appointed for a six month period, starting from April 2014.
