| CA-NEWS (UZ) - International human rights organization "Freedom House" made public its annual report "Countries of transition period" on June 30, in which called state of democracy and civil society in Uzbekistan "frightening," radio "Ozodlik" ("Liberty") reported. In frames of "Countries of transition period" report evaluation is realized according to scale from 1 to 7, where 1 is the highest and 7 is the lowest level of democratic development. Seven categories - elections process, court system and independence of judges, civil society, mass media independence, democratic governing on country level, local democratic governing, corruption - were included into evaluation criteria.
Uzbekistan received 7 points, which mean lowest level, in five of seven categories in the report. "Executive power continues to hold the country under total control and while current regime remains the same, there is no basis to believe that this situation will be reformed. That is why rating on national democratic governing of Uzbekistan received 7 points," "Ozodlik" cited. Categories of elections process, civil society, mass media independence, and independence of judges and judicial system were also named the lowest in the report. State of local democratic governing in Uzbekistan received 6.75 points, corruption - 6.5. "Freedom House" publishes annual report "Countries of transition period" since 2004, analyzing situation on democratic development in 29 countries of Central Europe and Eurasia in it.
