48 underground and overground pedestrian roads to be constructed in Kazakhstan

CA-NEWS (KZ) - 48 underground and overground pedestrian crossings will be constructed in Almaty in three years period, Tengrinews.kz said.

The Road and Passenger Transportation Department along with the Road Police Department and Transport and Communications Research Institute has identified the most heavy-loaded by traffic junctions where pedestrian crossings are required. Cross-walks will be constructed in three stages with 16 units to be constructed in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

There is the most urgent need for cross-walks in the north-western part of the city and its avenues, where the first stage of construction will be held.

Mayor of Almaty city has assigned the Economics Department to allocate the required funds to design and construct the pedestrian cross-walks in 2013. Road and Passenger Transportation Department was assigned to work out a design and deal with construction issues of the second and third stages of the project. Moreover, the Akim has considered the program of Almaty primary traffic network development. Traffic interchanges construction, Raiymbek, Ryskulov, Tolebi Streets carving out and widening to reach the eastern belt highway and the Big Almaty Ring Road are covered by the program.
