| CA-NEWS (CA) - Natalie Aitken and husband Carl Avery have spent the last year fixing up their 11-year-old one litre VW Polo ready for the ride of their lives.
The couple, who live in Church Road, Long Itchington, near Leamington, will drive from London to Ulan Bator in the hope of raising more than £10,000 for the Mercy Corps Mongolia, Barnardo's, and The Christina Noble Children's Foundation.
Accompanied by Carl's mate Mick Jones, they have called the mission aPolo 3, Coventry Telegraph reported.
Every year more than 6,000 people apply for 300 starting places in the Mongol Rally.
A convoy of jalopies will line up at London's Hyde Park on Saturday, July 19 ready for the big adventure, which could take anything from three weeks to three months to conquer.
Youngsters will beef up car for journey
TO make it to the big end-of-rally celebration at Dave's Bar in Ulan Bator on Saturday, August 16, they will have to negotiate a route that includes Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Turkey.
From there they will then drive to Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and finally Mongolia.
The project has also enlisted the help of Leamington company Pyramid Design, which built them a website, and Coventry-based business Elite Graphics, which created logos for the car.
Though they have already raised about £1,000 they are desperate for more corporate sponsorship.
Because they will be funding the entire trip, every penny donated will go directly to their chosen charities.
