President Nazarbaev urges to stop speculations over use of Kazakh language
27 January 2012, 14:11

CA-NEWS (KZ) - In his State of the Nation Address today, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev urged Kazakhs to stop speculations over the use of Kazakh language, Tengrinews.kz reported.

"Kazakh language is the official language of Kazakhstan in accordance with the Constitution. That very Constitution also states that Russian is used in public bodies equally with Kazakh language. These are norms set by the Constitution. Kazakh language will be developing not to the detriment of Russian language," President said.

"What is needed for further development of Kazakhstan is peace. The most important task of the foreign policy is to be friendly to neighbors. If a state lacks these two components, the state has no future."

According to President, "accord and peace are the most important for us. Kazakh language in its capacity of the official language is gradually taking on its due status. We have been saying that 95% of population will be able to speak the language by 2020. There should be no hurry. Haste won’t be effective. Both Parliamentarians and public figures should bear that in mind. The language should be developed in due course."
