Kazakhstan and Russia plan to sign agreement on Imashevskoye field in September
6 September 2010, 09:30

CA-NEWS (KZ) - Kazakhstan and Russia plan to sign an intergovernmental agreement on joint geological study and exploration of the Imashevskoye gas-condensate field in the framework of the Kazakh-Russian forum for inter-regional cooperation in Ust-Kamenogorsk on 6-7 September.

"The presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia Nursultan Nazarbaev and Dmitry Medvedev will take part in a plenary session on September, 7 where they are expected to sign a number of international agreements, the press-service of the Kazakh Economic Development Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The sides are currently preparing an agreement "for joint geological study and exploration of the Imashevskoye cross-border gas-condensate field, which will become the first cross-border site to be developed," reads the report.

In addition, the sides plan to sign an agreement for joint use and protection of transboundary waters, which also provides for the creation of a joint international foundation of the Ural River.

The Imashevskoye field is located east northeast of Astrakhan in Russia and southwest of Atyrau in Kazakhstan. Explored gas reserves exceed 100 billion cubic meters with a sulfur content of 15%-17%.
