CA-NEWS (TJ) - U.S. does not consider the interest of Russia to participate in a project to export electricity from Central Asia to South (CASA-1000) as a manifestation of the struggle for the region. "There was no struggle between the superpowers - Russia and the U.S. - on the project CASA-1000," said Assistant Secretary of State for Central and South Asia Robert Blake at a press conference in Dushanbe on Wednesday evening. Project CASA-1000 will allow the export of surplus power in summer time from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Kabul and the north-west Pakistan. A joint statement was issued after meeting of the presidents of Tajikistan, Russia, Afghanistan and Pakistan on August 18 in Sochi. The tenth paragraph of the statement says that the parties " are for the implementation of joint projects in energy and transport infrastructure in the region, particularly the project to create a system transmission of electricity from Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan" CASA-1000" and support the participation of Russian Federation." The U.S. position on the project CASA-1000 will be expressed after the development of a feasibility study on the project. "We are waiting for a feasibility study for the project CASA-1000, after which we can express our position," added Blake.
