CA-NEWS (TJ) - A seminar to consider problems of protection and restoration of child's rights took place in Konibodom, Sughd province on September 1.

Organized by the child's rights department within the Konibodom mayor's office, the meeting considered issues related to improvement of protection of child's rights in the city and the district of Konibodom.

The seminar participants adopted a resolution drawing attention of the public to the necessity of intensification of actions on the implementation of the national programs aimed at protection of child's rights, said Asia-Plus.

Ms. Mahbuba Muhiddinova, a guardianship specialist from the Konibodom education department, told Asia-Plus that the population of the city and the district of Konibodom was now 181,000, with 70,000 of them being children. "35,109 local children attend schools and 1,080 others attend preschool institutions," Muhiddinova said.

Of 70,000 children in Konibodom, 1,432 are orphans, 91 children are under guardianship, and 374 are children with physical disabilities, and society must be responsible for the future of these children, she stressed.

According to her, over the first eight months of this year the child's right department within the Konibodom mayor's office has considered 85 cases concerning children's destinies; 25 cases concerned child custody disputes during divorces, 18 cases concerned the appointment of a tutor, and the remainder concerned changing children's last names and division of property.

Muhiddinova added that they wanted to set up a rehabilitation center for children with limited opportunities with support from local authorities and interested international organizations.
