| CA-NEWS (TJ) - The North Atlantic Treaty Organization considers possibility of technical assistance for Tajikistan in establishment of the regional anti-terrorism center. Maintenance of stability and strengthening of security in Central Asia will be main tasks of the given regional anti-terrorism center.
NATO has launched an "important dialogue" with Tajikistan, which envisages "establishment of the anti-terrorism center", said NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for Caucasus and Central Asia Robert Simmons.
"This center supposes regional cooperation, since terrorism is a common problem of the region," Robert Simmons told journalists after the meeting with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on Tuesday.
Opening of the NATO special center in Tajikistan was raised during Rahmon's visit to Brussels last February for the first time.
Regional security issues and strengthening of cooperation between NATO and Tajikistan under the Partnership for Peace Program were discussed at the meeting with the President of Tajikistan, which the country joined in 2002.
"I thanked the government of the country for provided assistance with transit of non-lethal goods of NATO to Afghanistan. Cooperation between Tajikistan NATO will have further development prospects," he said.
He said the NATO troops will stay in Afghanistan until the targets are met. "NATO forces will stay there until all agreements are met," Simmons said. He stressed that NATO brings security and stability while staying in Afghanistan. NATO provides assistance to law enforcement agencies of Afghanistan in maintenance of public order across the country.
During his visit to Dushanbe Robert Simmons also held talks with Tajik Foreign Minister Khamrokhon Zarifi and First Deputy Defense Minister Ramil Nadyrov.
