Tajikistan and World Bank sign Memorandum of energy sphere development

CA-NEWS (TJ) - Tajikistan and the World Bank signed the Memorandum on mutual understanding in development of the energy sphere for provision of stable growth in the end of the previous week.

The document states key principals and frameworks of the cooperation between the World Bank and Tajikistan in provision of energy security of the republic and assistance to the provision of balanced economic growth.

Key principles of the Memorandum are unique energy resources of Tajikistan and its potential. This will provide the internal energy security and will create export incomes, reported "Khovar" agency.

The Memorandum foresees the increase of generating powers, introduction of mechanisms for provision of timely payments for the electric energy, reduction of technology loses in nets, strengthen financial management of energy enterprises. This will let to reduce the energy dependence of Tajikistan and reduce the deficit of electric energy.

Document also foresees aspects of the cooperation of sides in technical and economic assessment, evaluation of the ecology and social impact of the Rogun hydropower plant project.

The document provides that the technical and economic assessment and evaluation of the export market for electric supply lines of Central and Southern Asia (CASA-1000) will be finalized by the end of 2010.

It is planned to hold local and international consultation for the informing about the volume and results of studies to clarify questions of management and softening of ecological, social and other possible consequences and risks, according to the agency. The Bank will assist the creation of stable consortium for preparation, financing and realization of Rogun and CASA-1000 projects under the condition of economic, financial, ecology and social stability of these projects.
