CA-NEWS (CA) - More than 1.5 million HIV people live in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. In Estonia, Russia and Ukraine the prevalence of HIV prevails 1%, according to the UNO and UNAIDS joint program.

The highest rates falls at Ukraine. Experts concerned with the fact that the spread epidemy surpasses methods of fight against it, according to the UN press service.

The significant increase of HIV people in Eastern Europe and Central Asia is being observed since 2001. It grew 66% said country director of the UNAIDS Denis Brown. He noticed that during this period of time the speed of spread of the virus decreased 5% in Asia.

UNAIDS experts also notice positive changes in the region, including the access to the treatment of the HIV. This leads to the reduction of mortality from AIDS.
