CA-NEWS (TJ) - Tajikistan announced that the construction of the Rogun Hydropower Plant is the sovereign right of Tajikistan.

Tajik Prime Minister Akil Akilov replied to the letter of the Uzbek Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyayev concerning the construction of the Rogun Hydropower Plant on Saturday.

Akilov said that Tajikistan is ready to discuss all questions concerning this problem and receive the competent delegation of Uzbekistan in Dushanbe. He noticed that no project in Tajikistan is directed against any other country.

In 2007 Tajikistan directed to the World Bank with the request to make the economic expertize of the Rogun Hydropower Plant project. The Bank held necessary consultations with representations of all Central Asian countries.

He noticed that the decision of construction of the Rogun Hydropower Plant was made due to necessity of the provision of Tajik citizens with electric energy and provision of the economy which faces deficit which can not be covered by the import.

According to him, the project was several times checked. The last checking was made by German company "Lahmeye" in 2006 which confirmed the ecological security and economic practicability of the object.

He noticed that the position of Tajikistan concerning the usage of water resources was supported by many countries.
