CA-NEWS (KZ) - OSCE Chairman-in-office, Secretary of State, Kazakh Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabaev and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon discussed agenda of the visit of Ban Ki-moon to Kazakhstan this spring, reported press service of Kazakh Foreign Ministry. During the meeting sides mentioned efficient character of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Nations and discussed its prospects. Congratulating Kazakhstan on assuming the chairmanship of the OSCE and calling it a historic event, UN Secretary General noted that there are significant opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between UN and OSCE in solving urgent problems in the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian space. Ban Ki-moon also praised the initiative of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev on declaring 2010 the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures and declaring August 29 the International Day of Action against nuclear testing. In addition, during the meeting sides highlighted the importance of entry in 2009 in the Treaty on the establishment of a zone free of nuclear weapons in Central Asia.
