Number of Internet users in Uzbekistan reaches 2.74 million

CA-NEWS (UZ) - The number of Internet users in Uzbekistan reached 2.74 million or 96.8 users per 1000 persons, Uzbek Agency of Communication and Information reported on February 6.

The company considered introduction and development of information and communication technologies in 2009 and perspectives for 2010 during its session.

Communication and ICT enterprises rendered services for 1.7 trillion sums, which is 16% greater as compared to the corresponding index last year.

The sector attracted US $382.34 million of foreign investments for project realization. The annual plan for 2009 was fulfilled by 191%. The enterprises also invested 70.4 billion sums in 2009.

958 enterprises render data transfer services, including Internet services as of January 1, 2010, company reported. Number of public internet access points reached 1000. Total speed of access to international information networks reached 1.2 gigabits per second.

Number of domains registered in .UZ zone exceeded 9700, the company concluded.
